Thanks to support from our veteran riders, the schedule has been expanded quite a bit from previous years. Most of the routes we know are still here, but we’re adding 10 new courses from all across the state (6 have already been approved). The new routes are designed by randonneurs who know their region of Georgia better than probably anyone else.

A few highlights: The schedule is loaded with 200k’s to help introduce new riders to our sport. Our first night brevet will be on August 3rd. to help us bypass the summer heat. For various reasons, I’ve revamped the Augusta 600k. The difficulty will be very similar, but the route will be much nicer. Also, I’ve added a fleche (group ride) to the calendar with a destination of Savannah. Savannah should make for a great finish and a nice place for spouses to meet us when we’re done.

Plan to ride with us, or consider volunteering at some of the events you might not be able to ride.

If the brevets on our 2012 calendar don't fit your schedule, you can still keep active by riding some of the RUSA permanents in our area.  Georgia starting locations include:  Athens, Cedartown, Evans, Griffin, Powder Springs, Rome, and Sandy Springs.  There are also two permanents that start in North Augusta (SC).  More information can be found at http://www.rusa.org/cgi-bin/permsearch_GF.pl.  Of course, you can ride these permanents year round.  The miles will count toward all RUSA distance awards, including the r-12 (which is a 200k for 12 straight months).  You don't have to wait until January to get started.

There are numerous 1200k's to set your sights on in 2012.  Here are some dates:

Shenandoah 1200k - Leesburg, Virginia - June 7-10.

Cascade 1200k -  Monroe, Washington - June 23-27.

Rocky Mountain 1200k - Kamloops, British Columbia - July 22-26.

Taste of Carolina 1200k - Greensboro, North Carolina - September 1-4.

Last Chance 1200k - Denver, Colorado - September 12-15.
